  • Elderly individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) demonstrated increased interhemispheric synchronization (inter-PS) compared to elderly healthy controls.

Why this matters

  • The synchronization in periodic cortical activation between the brain hemispheres, inter-PS, may develop over time in response to asymmetric subcortical neural damage and thus could be a biomarker reflecting disease progression and interventional efficacy in PD.
