Microstructural changes in white matter found in children with demyelinating syndromes

Using a novel imaging technique known as fixel-based analysis (FBA), researchers in Canada have provided insights into the white matter (WM) damage that occurs in children with demyelinating syndromes.

Previously, changes in WM have been characterized in children with multiple sclerosis (MS) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody disease using diffusion tensor imaging. However, the ability of this method to characterize microstructural features, such as fiber density (FD), is limited, according to Dr Sonya Bells at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto, Canada.
