Correlations between brain regions activated during deep brain stimulation (DBS) and clinical outcomes can improve DBS targeting to improve treatment of essential tremor (ET).
Why this matters
DBS is an effective therapy for the 25–55% of patients with ET who cannot control tremors with medication, but it is still unclear which brain regions should be stimulated to provide the best results.
This study leverages technological advances to better characterize correlations between brain region stimulation and ET outcome to identify DBS targets that may provide more robust symptom improvement in ET.
